Expressions of Interest - A Trip Across 3 Time Zones to Western Australia and Return
Date and time: 9:00am, Saturday 10th May 2025 to Thursday 10th July 2025 (approx.)
Trip Standard: Easy – Mainly bitumen highways and gravel main roads
Description: Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the following requirements for this trip.
Departing Port Augusta to the Yorke Peninsula then across the Nullarbor Plain to the South- West of Western Australia, then north to Geraldton. From Geraldton heading east to the Kata Tjuta/Uluru National park via Mt Margaret and Laverton then along the Great Central Road; this road is a mostly unsealed red gravel road approx.1,126 km and a permit is needed.
From Kata Tjuta/Uluru to Erldunda on the Stuart Hwy is a sealed road then onto Alice Springs for provisions and repairs, if necessary. From Alice Springs south to Marla Road House. Decision then to either travel south along the Stuart Hwy back to Port Augusta or The Oodnadatta Track to Maree and the south along The Outback Hwy and Flinders Ranges Hwy to Port Augusta. The trip will visit sites and experiences along the way as decided upon by participants. It is anticipated that the daily drives will be around 350 km with ‘base camp’ stops where warranted.
Permits: Parks WA, Parks NT, Great Central Road. Others may be required.
Weather: Winter weather will be experienced across the Yorke Peninsula and the Nullarbor Plain and the Southwest of WA and probably up the coast, but warmer weather will be experienced across the Centre with cold nights.
Equipment: Below are the recommended vehicle requirements. If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for a trip, please have a chat with the trip leader.
Good off-road tyres (All Terrain, 60 profile recommended as a minimum), UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club), a well-maintained vehicle with low range (or equivalent), good ground clearance (200mm recommended as a minimum), recovery points, standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel. Trip will be suitable for camper trailers and caravans. Pets allowed but remember we will be travelling through national parks. No guns allowed.

Club Guest Registration policy: It is club policy in regard to insurance cover that if a member brings any non-members on the trip they must be registered and have paid the required fee as Temporary Members BEFORE the event.

Also if a non-member wishes to bring their own vehicle, the member inviting the non-member must contact the trip leader for approval to bring the vehicle. Such approval will take into account skills of the driver, suitability of the vehicle and whether or not a place within the convoy limit is available for a non-member's vehicle.
