Trip Standard:  Medium with some steep, rocky tracks and river crossings. Drivers must have completed the RRCV club driver training or equivalent.

Description:  Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the below requirements for this trip.

This Easter I would like to propose a 'combo' long weekend trip in the stunning Mount Buller area. The basecamp will be at Mount Buller village which surroundings provide a perfect backdrop for a weekend filled with off-road experiences and scenic views.

The trip plan caters for various activities to make the most of our time together. From easy/ medium 4WD treks, leisurely walks or bushwalking, photography opportunities to some social gatherings, there's something for everyone.

Please see below an exemplary trip plan.  We need to allow some flexibility to amend our plans depending on the weather (especially days 2&3).

  • Day 1: Sunset trip to Craig’s Hut
  • Day 2: Medium trek

.  Loop from Merrijig via Lovick’s Hut and Bluff Hut (Trek 2 from the book '4WD Treks of The High Country’ by Craig Lewis and Cathy Savage) – 119 km.  or;

.  Mount Stirling via Pineapple Flat and King River Hut (Trek 3 from the book '4WD Treks of The High Country’) – 79 km

  • Day 3:  Walks day – Mount Stirling Summit Loop – 16 km or Little Mount Buller – 5.7 km return, sunrise or sunset at Mount Buller Summit
  • Day 4:  Easy trek from Mount Buller to Tolmie via Evans Creek Hut (Trek 4 from the book '4WD Treks of The High Country’) – 63 km

Weather:  Alpine environment in autumn can be potentially cold and wet, so please bring clothing, footwear and camping gear (if you camp) suitable for the conditions and review the weather forecast for the Alpine area prior to the weekend.

Equipment:  Below are the recommended vehicle requirements. If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for this trip, please have a chat with the trip leader.

Good off-road tyres (All-terrain, 60 profile recommended as a minimum), UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club), a well-maintained vehicle with low range (or equivalent), good ground clearance (200 mm recommended as a minimum), recovery points, standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, recovery boards and shovel.

Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent.

Accommodation:  Arrangement of accommodation for 3 nights (18th to 21st April) will remain at participants’ discretion. Mount Buller village offer a variety of hotels, apartments and lodges.

Meals:  Morning tea and lunch stops will be in the bush – BYO simple meals and snacks. BYO thermos.

Dinners will depend on our accommodation arrangements.

Would be great to have one dinner together.  There are a few restaurants in the village and a booking will be made once we know the number of participants.

No pets or firearms.
