The Golden Way Castlemaine to Daylesford
Date and time: Sunday 23 May
Description: Because of popularity, this is the reverse trip to the one lead by Ken A. This trip follows the Robert Pepper Trek 10 from Castlemaine to Daylesford. The trek winds south from Castlemaine through the Castlemaine Diggings, Hepburn Regional Park and beautiful forests and parks. If time permits there is an optional 2Km walk through the diggings that we may try out.
Weather: May in country Vic – what more can you say? Could be anything, but probably cool – cold.
Equipment: good tyres (All Terrain preferred), UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club), a well-maintained vehicle with low range (or equivalent), good ground clearance (200mm recommended as a minimum), Usual recovery gear.
Simple, “on the move” lunches and morning teas (byo thermos), drinking water.
No pets
Trip Standard: Easy/Medium - some steep, low-range hill climbs and some rocky tracks! Most of the trek is easy but there are a number of hills and muddy sections that require low range
Fuel: a full tank ex Melbourne should suffice
Distance: Approx. distance from Melb is 140 Km to start. Trek distance is 75Km.
Duration: 1 day
Convoy limit: 10 vehicles
Meeting arrangements: We plan to meet in the main street of Castlemaine (Mostyn Street) near the Castlemaine visitors centre. There is a pedestrian crossing in front of the visitors Centre and a cafe (Pannini Expresso) opposite. We will have a driver briefing at 9.00am sharp. If you plan to get coffee beforehand then you will need to arrive a little earlier. We will aim to finish mid afternoon in Daylesford.
