  Equipment: UHF radio, handhelds ok. Stock 4WDs and beginners welcome. Driver training not required for this trip.

  Distance:  Approximately 200km from Melbourne.

  Date and time:  8:00am, Saturday 12^th Sep to 4:00pm Wednesday 7^h October

  Trip Standard:  Hard - Desert crossings. Sand Dunes. Remote outback travel. Some long driving days.

  Description:  3 ½ weeks approx. travelling through outback SA inc Coober Pedy, then heading to Old Andado Station, an old cattle property in the Northern Territory ending up in Birdsville, then travelling to Poeppel Corner where you can stand in three states at once!  Then returning visiting Lake Eyre & Muloorina Station (Hot Springs) and other attractions on the way back. More detailed info TBA.

  Weather:  Outback / Desert environment, potentially warm days and very cool nights.  Review the area weather forecast leading up to the trip and bring appropriate clothing, footwear and camping gear.

  Equipment:  Below are the recommended vehicle requirements.  If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for a trip, please call and have a chat with the trip leader.

  Mandatory Requirements:

  • 4x4 vehicle with suitable ground clearance and recovery points.
  • 4 tyres of LT construction with good tread depth, full-sized spare and wheel, preferably 1 additional spare tyre which may be on a wheel or not.
  • Plug tyre repair kit.
  • Air compressor.
  • Sand flag.
  • Food & water sufficient for 7 days minimum
  • Shovel for sand recovery.
  • Recovery boards (i:e Maxtrax etc) x 2
  • Suitable recovery gear inc snatch strap, tow strap, shackles etc.
  • Basic tools – jack, wheel brace, spanners, multi-meter, screwdrivers, knife, tapes, file, pliers etc, and spares appropriate for your vehicle.
  • 80-channel UHF radio 5-watt, in-car mount.
  • At least 1 handheld UHF radio.
  • Vehicle pre-trip serviced and inspected.

  Well-maintained Low Range 4wd’s with high clearance (minimum 2-inch lift above standard) and have rated recovery points front and rear.  Tyres must be of light truck construction and be either Mud Terrain or All Terrain with deep tread and minimum 60 profile (No road tyres).  Second spare tyre recommended but not mandatory.  Vehicles must have a snorkel fitted and carry a car bra or tarp to secure to the front in case of higher-than-expected water levels, must be UHF radios x 2 equipped (One in car and one handheld, which can be borrowed from the club if reqd).  Standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel must be carried.  Winch is recommended, but not essential.  Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent. 

  Additional Equipment required:  Camping gear food and drinking water for 7 days / 6 night in the bush MINIMUM.  Clothing for both warm and cold conditions.  Morning tea and lunches will be “on the road” most days – byo simple, “on the move” lunches and morning teas (byo thermos etc).

  Recommended

  • Satellite comms system e.g. satphone, sat communicator, PLB.  We will have a couple of Starlink’s in addition.

  As this is an extended trip, we will have a separate briefing and meeting to do the detailed planning.

  Targeted at new members, but also open to members who have recently changed vehicles or need a refresher. This course is free to new members and a nominal charge is applicable for repeat members. The RRCV's Driver Trainers are accredited with FWDV and on completion of both theory and practical sessions, you will receive a proficiency certificate that is recognised by all FWDV affiliated clubs.

  Theory will be held at 

  Bells and Whistles Cafe, 127 Highbury Road Burwood 3125.

  Time: Course commences at 7:30pm sharp - please arrive at least 10 minutes beforehand to complete some paperwork. Please bring your licence.

  20th Far East Gippsland Track Clearing & Gate Opening with Parks Victoria

  Date and time:  8:30am, Thursday 15th October to 4:00pm Sunday 18th October 

  Trip Standard:  Medium with hard sections. Training required, also see equipment requirements.

  Description:   20th Far East Gippsland Track Clearing & Gate Opening with Parks Victoria

  Join us for 2, 3 or 4 days.

  This is again a wonderful opportunity to work with and support Parks Victoria Rangers in fabulous and remote National Parks, clearing tracks and opening Seasonally Closed gates. You will be exploring old growth forests, cool temperate rainforest and alpine heights.

  Clearing walking tracks (with PV supplied equipment or your own chainsaws) in the Errinundra National Park on the Thursday & Friday and 4WD tracks (using your own chainsaws (if accredited) and assisting clearing the tracks on the Saturday and Sunday in the Alpine National Park and Errinundra National Parks with Parks Victoria Rangers. 

  Tracks will range from Easy to Hard depending on the convoy you travel with. Club Driver Training is a requirement.

  Please be self sufficient and carry emergency supplies of food and water with you in the bush. Be prepared for cold and wet conditions. Some convoys will be travelling in Alpine areas.  Please bring your own picnic lunch and water each day for lunch in the bush.

  Parks Victoria Rangers hold full safety briefings.

  The Bendoc Hotel will be open with meals (including take away) available.

  The Bendoc Hall with BBQ has been booked for the 3 nights.

  Saturday night will be a BBQ dinner organised by Parks Victoria and others. Please BYO drinks. There will be presentations by Parks Victoria Rangers and others celebrating the 20th anniversary of Track Clearing out of the Bendoc PV office.

  This event will be jointly held with the Pajero 4WD Club, the Land Rover Owners Club of Vic, the Friends of Errinundra and the INEOS 4X4 Club of Victoria.

  Track Clearing will run concurrently with the Friends of Errinundra's Springtime on Errinundra. See another club trip announcement for details which include drives led by botanist David Cameron that some members of your vehicle group may wish to join. Car pooling may be arranged.

  No pets or firearms.

  We recommend full Ambulance Victoria coverage and RACV Total Care (or similar).

  Weather:  Alpine environment, potentially cold and wet.  We have had wet weather and snow in the past, so please bring clothing, footwear and camping gear suitable for the conditions and keep an eye on the weather forecast for the Alpine area. 

  Equipment:  Below are the recommended vehicle requirements.  If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for a trip, please have a chat with the trip leader.

  All terrain tyres at a minimum, in car UHF radio, front and rear recovery points, 2 rated shackles, chainsaw with all required Personal Protection Equipment for certified chainsaw operators, serviced winch if you have one, leather working gloves, strong work boots, rated drag chain, air compressor and tyre gauge, Maxtrax or similar, axe, hand saw, safety glasses, hand held UHF radio.  First Aid kit.  All camping and cooking gear, water and food for the weekend. BYO Lunch each day in the bush.

  Additional Equipment required:  Free camping at Wilsons Hut (Marriot Track 5kms from Bendoc) with DEECA bush toilets, fire pits and picnic tables. If towing a caravan or camper trailer you may wish to travel via Cann River and Bombala.  Local accommodation may be available. Showers available next to the Bendoc Hall for a gold coin donation

  Clothing for wet and cold conditions.  Morning tea and lunches will be in the bush each day – byo simple, “on the move” lunches and morning teas (byo thermos).

  Fuel:  Fuel available in Orbost and Delegate (limited hours) and Bombala in NSW. Please have a full fuel tank at the last available fuel outlet. No supplies are available in Bendoc 

  Distance:  Bendoc is approximately 450 km from Melbourne.  The trip distance Bendoc - Bendoc is 300 km of mainly low range driving. 

  Duration: 2,3 or 4 days 

  Convoy limit: 10 vehicles 

  Meeting arrangements:  We will meet at Bendoc depot for Parks Victoria (DEECA) at 8:30am each day and aim to finish about 4.00pm.

  Trip Standard:  Easy - New Members Welcome

  This event is organised by the Friends of Errinundra and will be run concurrently with the Annual Track Clearing 4 days.

  Explore old growth forests, cool temperate rainforests, alpine heights and a remote nature reserve. Featuring guided drives, short walks and evening talks by senior botanist David Cameron (the track clearers are also welcome to attend these presentations).

  David Cameron: The former Senior Botanist at DEECA for 25 years, now an Honorary Fellow with the Arthur Rylah Institute, Botanical Curator of the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas Data Base, first employed by the Forests Commission in 1978 as their first botanist. Stationed at Orbost.

  The Gippsland Waratahs will be flowering by this time.

  Based at the Bendoc Hall each evening.

  Saturday evening will be a BBQ organised by Parks Victoria with assistance from others (BYO drinks), with presentations by Parks Victoria and others celebrating the 20th annual Track Clearing event.

  Participants may wish to split their time between track clearing and the drives (see the Track Clearing event notice for further information).  If club members from the same vehicle wish to participate in different activities this is possible through car pooling.  Lunch will be your own picnic lunch in the bush each day.

  Full ambulance cover and RACV Total Care (or similar) is recommended.

  Full self sufficiency is required as there are no supplies or fuel available in Bendoc.

  The Bendoc Hotel has evening meals (including take away) available.

  Far North East Victoria & the Geehi Huts

  Date and time:  3:00pm, Saturday October 31 to Wednesday November 4

  Trip Standard:  Medium in dry conditions. Wet weather will make this trip more difficult and likely necessitate a route change. There will be a mix of bitumen roads, good gravel and low-range 4WDing on some reasonably steep tracks. There will also be a number of water crossings.

  Description:   Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the following requirements for this trip.
  

  A touring trip into the far north east high country of Victoria, then across the Murray River to the Geehi region of the Kosciuszko National Park.

  There will be a mix of bitumen, gravel roads and low range 4WDing. We will camp for one night at Native Dog Flat and three nights at Old Geehi Hut. All the campgrounds will have limited facilities, likely only long-drop toilets. We will need to carry firewood and while almost every campground will be near a river, best to be self sufficient with water.

  Omeo, at the start of the trip, and Khancoban at the end of the trip will be our refuelling stops.

  Proposed Schedule:

  October 31:  3.00pm - depart Omeo (with full tank of fuel & other provisions).  4.30pm - Arrive at Native Dog Flat and set up camp

  Nov 1 -Travel from Native Dog Flat to Old Geehi Hut. The route will depend on track conditions and whether camper trailers are on the trip.

  Nov 2 - Touring around the Geehi region looking at the local huts and scenery.

  Nov 3 -Touring around the Geehi region looking at the local huts and scenery, or possibly a 4WD trip back into Victoria for the day.

  Nov 4 - Travel from Old Geehi Hut, through Khancoban and Corryong home to Melbourne. This is all bitumen roads.

  Weather:  Be prepared for cold, alpine weather. If warm, we will be camping near rivers most nights so also bring along swimming gear as well. Please check the forecast before departure and come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear.  Bring water, sunscreen and a hat.

  This is a largely dry weather trip and if it rains the route will need to be modified.

  A well-maintained 4WD vehicle with All Terrain tyres, UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club). Bring your standard recovery gear including rated snatch strap, shackles, recovery boards and a shovel.  These are medium treks, but after rain roads can be wet, slippery and with some puddles.

  Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent.

  Camper trailers are welcome. Please let the trip leader know when signing-up as it will affect the route chosen. No caravans or pets.

  Accommodation:  Every night of the trip will be camping in National Park campgrounds. In NSW that will involve park and camping fees. Campgrounds will be reasonably primitive with long-drop toilets the only services. We will need to carry firewood.

  Campfires:  Please bring a bag of wood per vehicle. There’s three nights’ camping at Old Geehi where we need to be self sufficient with firewood. All the campsites we are going to are reasonably popular and generally denuded of decent firewood. Chainsaws and firewood collection are banned in NSW National Parks.

  Meals:  You will need to be self-sufficient for all meals.

  Maps and Reference Material:  Any maps you will be using.

  Additional Equipment required:  Camping gear, food and water for the weekend.  Clothing for wet and cold conditions.  Morning tea will be in the bush each day – byo thermos, etc. 

  Fuel:  Please have a full tank of fuel from the meeting point at Omeo. I do not expect anyone would need any jerry cans. The refuelling point will be at Khancoban on the way home.

  Distance:  Omeo is approximately 380 km from Melbourne.  The trip distance is approximately ???km of high and low range driving. 

  Duration: 5 days

  Meeting arrangements:  We will meet in the public car park near the Golden Age Hotel in Omeo at 3pm on October 31 and aim to finish the trip around 2pm in Corryong on November 5.

  Trip Standard: Medium in dry conditions - Training required, also see Equipment requirements. 

  This is a medium-difficulty trek. A combination of easy and medium tracks (low range driving might be required).  While generally manageable, wet weather can significantly increase the challenge, making roads slippery, with muddy sections and standing water in places.

  Description: Lerderderg State Forest is one of the best destinations near Melbourne for a day off-road trip.

  We will tackle a mix of easy and medium tracks, perfect for those keen to test their skills and vehicles without going extreme. 

  It’s an exploratory trip! No recon, no guarantees, just a rough plan and a good dose of curiosity. Expect rugged terrain, winding bush tracks, creek crossings, and forest roads that twist through towering gums. There are other easier roads to the destination, and we can alter the route if the planned trek appears to be too hard.

  We will finish in Trentham – in 2025 named Victoria's Top Tiny Tourism Town so you may decide to enjoy one of its restaurants for a meal.

  Weather:  Spring around Melbourne is typically sunny and warm, but conditions can vary. Please check the forecast before departure and come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear. Bring water, sunscreen and a hat.

  Targeted at new members, but also open to members who have recently changed vehicles or need a refresher. This course is free to new members and a nominal charge is applicable for repeat members. The RRCV's Driver Trainers are accredited with FWDV and on completion of both theory and practical sessions, you will receive a proficiency certificate that is recognised by all FWDV affiliated clubs.

  Trip Standard: Medium. Training and equipment required.
  Some steep hills requiring low-range and some rocky and rutted sections as well.  All seasonally closed tracks are expected to have been opened in early November

  Description: This a re-run of the Wednesday trip held on 22 February 2026.  The variability of track terrain and lush forest environment makes the itinerary appealing to both seasoned 4WD adventurers and members who may have recently completed driver training seeking to build on their skills. 

  This trip covers 12 of the 14 4WD tracks in the “rectangle” enclosed by the Reefton Hotel, Ada tree, Starlings Gap and East Warburton. Barring two tracks of only trivial interest, and apart from some small changes in track sequence, together with the addition of the previously closed Muddy Creek Tk, this itinerary is Trek 15, Beyond Warburton, added in the current 5^th edition of 4WD Treks Close to Melbourne.  All participants will be given turn by turn directions for this modified route at the Reefton Hotel 9.00 am trip briefing and air down.

  Weather:  Weather will be monitored in the week before the trip.  A prior inspection of the intended route will be conducted to determine if any modifications are required.

  Equipment:  Below are the recommended vehicle requirements.  If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for the trip, please have a chat with the trip leader.

  Good off-road tyres (All Terrain, 60 profile recommended as a minimum), UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club), a well-maintained vehicle with low range (or equivalent), good ground clearance (200mm recommended as a minimum), recovery points, standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel.  Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent.

  Fuel:  A full tank ex Melbourne.

  Distance:  Estimated round trip from the Reefton Hotel is circa 90 km.
