Midweek Meander – Yarra State Forest 4wd Tracks

Date and time:  9:00 am to 4.00pm, Wednesday 8th May 2024

Trip Standard: Medium – quite a few steep hills requiring low-range and some rocky and rutted sections as well.

Description:  Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the following requirements for this trip.

The convoy will depart Warburton initially to explore 4WD tracks north of Starvation Creek Road. From there the focus will shift to 4WD tracks towards and across Brahams Road, concluding in Warburton. This smorgasbord of 4WD tracks passes through a scenic wonderland, with typically few or no other vehicles expected all day. The overall 4WD medium standard driving menu is curated for the discerning gourmet’s palate. Very little time is spent on bitumen or graded gravel roads.

Weather:  Weather can be cool and wet in early May and will be monitored in the week before the trip.  This will be supplemented with an inspection of the intended route to determine if any modifications are required.

Equipment:  Below are the recommended vehicle requirements.  If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for the trip, please have a chat with the trip leader.

Good off-road tyres (All Terrain, 60 profile recommended as a minimum), UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club), a well-maintained vehicle with low range (or equivalent), good ground clearance (200mm recommended as a minimum), recovery points, standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel.  Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent.

Map:  Rooftop Maps: Yarra Valley – West Gippsland Adventure Map.

Fuel:  A full tank ex Melbourne.

Distance:  Estimated round trip from Warburton is 90 km, subject to final itinerary based on track conditions.

Duration: One day

Convoy limit: 8 vehicles

Meeting arrangements:  We need to meet at 9.00 am sharp in Warburton, in the public carpark adjacent to the elevated Police Station on the RHS.  If you plan to get coffee beforehand, say at the 3 Sugars Café opposite, you will need to arrive a little earlier.  We aim to finish around 4.00 pm at the 3 Sugars Café for the debrief.

Club Guest Registration policy:  It is club policy in regard to insurance cover that if a member brings any non-members on the trip they must be registered and have paid the required fee as Temporary Members BEFORE the event.
i.e.  non- members can no longer register on the day with the trip leader.

Temporary Membership information and ways to register can be found at:

Temporary (Guest) Membership

Also if a non-member wishes to bring their own vehicle, the member inviting the non-member must contact the trip leader for approval to bring the vehicle. Such approval will take into account skills of the driver, suitability of the vehicle and whether or not a place within the convoy limit is available for a non-member's vehicle.
