Queen’s Birthday Butcher Country Caledonia Track - 3 day trip
Date and time: Saturday 12th June to Monday 14th June (Queens Birthday weekend)
Description: Queen’s Birthday Butcher Country Caledonia Track. 3 DayTrip. We will meet at Licola on Saturday morning and head towards Black Soil Gully Road with several river crossings of the Macalister River along the way. Then heading up Butcher Country Track to spectacular views of the valley. Then heading down Butcher Country Link Tk and along Caledonia River Tk where we will camp for the night. On Sunday we will head up to Howitt Road. Then onto historical Lovicks Hut where we shall camp for Sunday night. On Monday we will pack up and head home thought Sheepyard Flats, Mansfield.
Weather: Queen’s birthday weekend can have extreme weather so please prepare for cold weather, rain and snow.
Bring enough food for 3 days,
Equipment: Well-maintained Low Range 4wd’s with high clearance (minimum 2-inch lift above standard) and have rated recovery points front and rear.
Tyres must be of light truck construction and be either Mud Terrain or All Terrain with deep tread and minimum 60 profile. No road tyres.
Vehicles must have a snorkel fitted
Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training. Vehicles must be UHF radio equipped (or one borrowed from the club). Standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel must be carried.
Trip Standard: Hard/Medium. Some of the tracks are rated Medium but most are rated Hard. Expect steep climbs and descents, challenging sections, water crossings, ruts (may be deep in some sections) and bog holes after rain.
Fuel: A full tank ex Taralgon or Licola
Distance: Friday - Melbourne to Licola 249km. Monday Lovicks Hut to Melbourne 482km
Duration: 3 days
Convoy limit: 5 vehicles
