Tallarook State Forest

Date and time:  9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday 4th May

Trip Standard:  Medium or Hard - some steep, low-range climbs and some rocky tracks

Description:  Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the following requirements for this trip.

This trip aims to explore some tracks at Tallarook State Forest, aiming to do some low range climbs, we will probably check out the easier ones of the Tehan's tracks, look at Jenkin's tracks (maybe we will just look), do a bit of Magazine and Caddell tracks, Climb Mount Hickey which will be a rocky track and that should be enough to fill our day This is an exploration trip and we might update it as we go depending on how we go.

Most of the tracks we will try to do will be of a medium standard, but some tracks may require low range to climb (participants must have completed RRCV training or equivalent). More experienced members are most welcome to join and help guide/co-lead. Aiming for this to be a fun day practicing on relatively easy climbs (but maybe steep)

We will have morning tea and lunch (and maybe afternoon tea too) in the area.

Weather:  We would expect it to be a little cold and we plan to only go ahead if the weather and tracks are fairly dry as some tracks are steep and best to only attempt on good dry weather. We will monitor Tallarook weather and advise. (sometimes Melbourne is rainy, but Tallarook is dry)

Equipment:  Below are the recommended vehicle requirements. If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for a trip, please have a chat with the trip leader.

Good off-road tyres (All Terrain, 60 profile recommended as a minimum), UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club), a well-maintained vehicle with low range (or equivalent), good ground clearance (200mm recommended as a minimum), recovery points, standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel and air compressor.

Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent.

Maps and Reference Material:  I will be using Newtracs

Fuel:  Full tank ex Melbourne / nearest fuel available at Broadford

Distance:  110 kms north of Melbourne + offroad tracks of around 60-80kms

Duration: 1 day, day trip only

Convoy limit: 8 vehicles (minimum of 4)

Meeting arrangements:  We will depart at 9:00 am from Murchison Gap Lookout on Broadford-Flowerdale Rd (lookup Google maps) and we should finish about 4:00pm. Please aim to be there by 8:30 for a quick trip briefing and air down.
