Warburton Wanderings - mid week day trip

Date and time:  9.00am – 4.00pm, Wednesday 11 Nov 2026

Trip Standard:  Easy (Green). Ideally suited to new members seeking to build on proficiency training.  The 4WD tracks selected will be progressively move from flat and easy through to some moderate challenges on the easy spectrum. Some low range driving will be included.  RRCV proficiency driver training or equivalent is preferable, but drivers are not required have completed that training for this trip.

Description:  A scenic day in the Yarra Ranges starting at Warburton. First off are stopovers at points of interest on bitumen along the Yarra River heading towards Woods Point.  Then it’s off to well-maintained gravel roads in the forest proper to the historic Ada tree for a walk and BYO lunch.  The afternoon will be devoted to 4WD tracks enroute back to Warburton. Some of these may include a few seasonally re-opened tracks.

Weather:  Spring can be variable, and anything from sunny to cold and wet, so please bring clothing, footwear suitable for the conditions and keep an eye on the weather forecast for the area.

Equipment:  Below are the vehicle requirements.  If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for a trip, please have a chat with the trip leader.

A well maintained vehicle with All Terrain or Mud Terrain tyres.  UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club).  An air pressure pump and gauge.  Recovery gear is not mandatory, but if you have it, bring your standard recovery gear including, rated snatch strap, shackles and a shovel

Morning tea and lunches will be in the bush – byo simple, “on the move” lunches and morning teas (byo thermos).

No camper trailers, pets or firearms.

Distance:  Approx 90km for the round trip starting and finishing in Warburton.

Convoy limit:  10 vehicles

Meeting arrangements:  We plan to meet at 9.00 am sharp in the public carpark behind the Police Station in the main street of Warburton for the trip briefing; arrive earlier if you wish to grab a coffee!  Departure strictly by 9.30am.  We aim to finish by about 3.45pm back in Warburton for a group debriefing before heading home.

Club Guest Registration policy:  It is club policy in regard to insurance cover that if a member brings any non-members on the trip they must be registered and have paid the required fee as Temporary Members BEFORE the event.  i.e.  non-members can no longer register on the day with the trip leader.

Also if a non-member wishes to bring their own vehicle, the member inviting the non-member must contact the trip leader for approval to bring the vehicle. Such approval will take into account skills of the driver, suitability of the vehicle and whether or not a place within the convoy limit is available for a non-member's vehicle.
