Trip Standard: Difficult - Most tracks are rated hard. Expect steep climbs and descents, challenging sections, water crossings, ruts (may be deep in some sections) and bog holes after rain.
Description: Offering a driving challenge and some great views, this trek explores the more isolated areas of the historic Mt Disappointment State Forest. The route takes in sections of track here there are steep ascents and descents, and deep fords requiring low range work, as well as walking tracks and scenic places to stop for picnics.
In the south of the forests there are views across Sunday Creek Reservoir, part of Melbourne’s water catchment, whilst in the north there is a steep walking track to the viewing areas near the 50 m drop of Strath Creek Falls.
NOTE: not planning to do the side track Sailor Jack/Wild Dog loop rated double black. Trip may also be postponed if there has been recent heavy rain.
Weather: Melbourne region in March – could be anything so be prepared for hot or cold and wet weather.

Well-maintained Low Range 4wd’s with high clearance and have rated recovery points front and rear. Tyres should be either Mud Terrain or All Terrain with deep tread (No road tyres). Must be UHF radio equipped (or one borrowed from the club). Standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel must be carried. Winch is recommended, but not essential.
Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent.
