Range Rover Club Victoria

All vehicle makes welcome – it’s not about the cars - it’s about the people

Range Rover Club of Victoria

The Range Rover Club of Victoria is one of Victoria’s longest-established 4WD Clubs having been founded in 1977, originally of Range Rover owners only. Over the years the club has grown to embrace owners of all makes of 4WD vehicles and people from all walks of life brought together by a love of the great outdoors and a sense of adventure!

The RRCV of today it is a family oriented four wheel drive touring club that supports a diverse range of interests and vehicles of all types. Whether you like harder High Country trips, fixed based camping or long outback touring trips our Trip Calendar has something for you. We aim to provide our Members with a wide range of activities and actively promote social, recreational and safe four wheel driving.

Our trips cater for drivers and families of all experiences levels. Indeed not all our trips involve four wheel driving. We also aim to get together regularly for social events such as winery tours and restaurant nights. We also provide driver training; via our FWDV accredited instructors.

Club meetings are held at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of most months and are currently a blend of face-to-face and online, via Zoom - where 40-50 members catch up each month. Our monthly club meetings are held at The Glasshouse (31 Station St Caulfield East, 3145) at Caulfield Racecourse. Many members turn up early to eat at the bistro beforehand.

Contact our Membership Secretary if you want to join the meeting memberships@rangeroverclub.org.au

Check out the calendar for more details and our new venue, and then come along and see what we’re about! (let us know you're coming so we can look out for you).

By the way, if you thought that we're just Range Rovers, check this out!  It's not about the cars, it's about the people.

Far East Gippsland Track Clearing with Parks Victoria – 2, 3 or 3.5 days

    Date and time:  8.00am, Thursday 16 October 2025 to 3.00pm Sunday 19 October 2024

Trip Standard:  Medium with possible hard sections depending on the convoy you travel with.

Description:  Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the following requirements for this trip.

The 19th Annual Far East Gippsland track clearing, gate opening and track assessment event with Parks Victoria (PV) is on again and here is your opportunity to explore some remote parts of Far East Gippsland, practice your chainsaw and/or track clearing skills and work with Parks Victoria (PV) Rangers.  Also included this year are walking track clearing and perhaps repairs, most likely on the Thursday and Friday.  We have heard that this may involve some large trees to be cleared as well as brushcutter work.  Walking track clearing will involve walking in your equipment (and lunch and water) to clear the trees and vegetation.

PV manage the event and safety is a high priority.

The Friends of Errinundra, the Pajero 4WD Club and the Land Rover Owners Club of Victoria will also be joining us.

We are seeking both certified chainsaw operators and helpers. The Snowy River National Park, Northern Alpine National Park and Errinundra National Park are spectacular locations with some interesting 4WD tracks.

We will be camping at Wilson’s Hut campground (5km from Bendoc) which has picnic tables, fire pits and drop toilets.  The hut also has a fireplace.  Please bring all your food, water and cooking equipment with you.  You can bring your camper trailer or van to Wilson’s Hut Campground (no power) if you wish, although you will need to return to the campground after the Sunday activities to collect your van.  Hot showers are available in Bendoc at the community hall for a gold coin donation.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night dinners are available at the Bendoc Hotel. Please call (02) 6458 1453 to book a table.  They do have a limited kitchen, so it does assist them if we book ahead.

The PV Rangers will be providing a thorough safety briefing on each morning, and each convoy will be carrying a PV Radio for regular safety check ins during the event.

PV Rangers will organise a BBQ dinner on the Saturday night, probably at the Bendoc Hall.

RACV TotalCare or equivalent plus Ambulance subscription are highly recommended.  The nearest town with supermarkets is Orbost.  Delegate in NSW has a store and fuel.  We will be travelling in a remote area so please be self-sufficient.  The work requires a reasonable level of fitness.

Drivers must have completed the club Proficiency Driver Training course (or equivalent).

Parks Volunteers are all required to have a Working With Children Check (WWCC). This is free for volunteers.  Please email the trip leader a copy of your WWCC that will be sent to Parks Victoria.

If you do not have a WWCC card, it is free to apply for one and only takes 10 minutes online plus a visit to the Post Office for those without a Service Victoria account.

Last fuel stop is at Orbost although there is fuel in NSW at Delegate (restricted hours).

Be prepared for cold and wet conditions and bring all your food, water, camping and cooking gear for the weekend. It has snowed in previous years.  Morning tea and lunch will be in the bush each day. Please also carry an emergency supply of food.

    No pets or firearms.

    Bendethera & the Geehi Huts

    Date & Time:  November 3:00 pm,1st November to 2:00 pm, 8th November

Trip Standard:  Medium in dry conditions. Wet weather will make this trip more difficult and likely necessitate a route change. There will be a mix of bitumen roads, good gravel and low-range 4WDing on some reasonably steep tracks. There will also be a number of water crossings.

Description:  A touring trip across the Murray River to the Geehi region of the Kosciuszko National Park and then on to Bendethera in the Deua National Park in NSW.

There will be a mix of bitumen, gravel roads and low range 4WDing.  We will camp for two nights at Old Geehi Hut and two nights at Bendethera.  All other stops will be single-night camping.  All the campgrounds will have limited facilities, likely only long-drop toilets.  We will need to carry firewood and while almost every campground will be near a river, best to be self sufficient with water.

Omeo, at the start of the trip, and Cooma will be our refuelling stops for both cars and people.

    Proposed Schedule:

Nov 1:  3.00pm - depart Omeo (with full tank of fuel & other provisions) 4.30pm - Arrive at Native Dog Flat and set up camp

Nov 2:  Travel from Native Dog Flat to Old Geehi Hut. The route will depend on track conditions and whether camper trailers are on the trip.

Nov 3:  Touring around the Geehi region looking at the local huts and scenery.

Nov 4:  Travel from Geehi through Jindabyne and Cooma to The Cascades for an overnight camp. This will mostly be on bitumen roads with a stop in Cooma for fuel and supplies.

Nov 5:  Travel from The Cascades to Bendethera. This will all be on gravel roads through very scenic countryside, including a steep descent into Bendethera to camp alongside the Deua River for a couple of nights.

Nov 6:  Drive the Bendethera and Merricumbene Fire Trails to two properties, Alpine & Canoolie, north of Bendethera. Hopefully an early lunch around midday at Canoolie. After lunch, head west on the Minuma Fire Trail and Dampier Mountain Trail back to Bendethera.

Nov 7:  Travel from Bendethera through Cooma and Jindabyne, then down the Barry Way along the Snowy River to an overnight stop at the Pinch River campground.

Nov 8:  Finish driving the Barry Way to Bairnsdale where the trip will end.

Weather:  Be prepared for cold, alpine weather. If warm, we will be camping near rivers most nights so also bring along swimming gear as well. Please check the forecast before departure and come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear.  Bring water, sunscreen and a hat.

This is a largely dry weather trip and if it rains the route will need to be modified.

Equipment:  Below are the recommended vehicle requirements.  If you are not sure if your vehicle is suitable for this trip, please have a chat with the trip leader.

A well-maintained 4WD vehicle with All Terrain tyres, UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club).  Bring your standard recovery gear including rated snatch strap, shackles, recovery boards and a shovel.  These are medium treks, but after rain roads can be wet, slippery and with some puddles.

Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent.

Camper trailers are welcome. Please let the trip leader know when signing-up as there is only one camper trailer approved route into Bendethera.

    No caravans or pets.

Accommodation:  Every night of the trip will be camping in National Park campgrounds.  In NSW that will involve park and camping fees.  Campgrounds will be reasonably primitive with long-drop toilets the only services.  We will need to carry firewood.

Meals:  You will need to be self-sufficient for all meals. After leaving Omeo, Cooma will be the resupply stop both times we pass through.

    Duration:  8 days

    Convoy limit:  8 vehicles

Meeting Arrangements:  We will depart from Omeo at 3pm on November 1 and aim to finish the trip around 2pm in Bairnsdale on November 8.

    Lerderderg Explorer

    Date and time:  9:00 am – 04:30 pm, Saturday, 15th November 2025

Trip Standard:  Medium in dry conditions – combination of easy and medium tracks (low range driving might be required).

Description:  Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the below requirements for this trip.

Lerderderg State Forest is one of the best destinations near Melbourne for a day off-road trip.   We will tackle a mix of easy and medium tracks, perfect for those keen to test their skills and vehicles without going extreme.

It’s an exploratory trip! No recon, no guarantees, just a rough plan and a good dose of curiosity.  Expect rugged terrain, winding bush tracks, creek crossings, and forest roads that twist through towering gums – most of which I will be driving for the first time.  There are other easier roads to the destination and we can alter the route if the planned trek appears to be too hard.

We will finish in Trentham – recently named Victoria's Top Tiny Tourism Town for 2025 so you may decide to enjoy one of its restaurants for a dinner.

Weather:  Spring around Melbourne is typically sunny and warm, but conditions can vary.  Please check the forecast before departure and come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear.  Bring water, sunscreen and a hat.

This is strictly a dry-weather trip.  If rain is forecast, I reserve the right to cancel or postpone the trip with one week's notice.

This is a medium-difficulty trek.  While generally manageable, wet weather can significantly increase the challenge, making roads slippery, with muddy sections and standing water in places.

    Weekend in The Otways

Date and time:  9:00 am Saturday 6th December to 3:30 pm Sunday 7th December

Description:  Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the below requirements for this trip.

This is a social weekend trip catered to enjoy the mild spring weather and the natural beauty of the Otways and the Great Ocean Road. The region offers stunning landscapes, with plenty of opportunities to capture the magic of both coastal scenery and lush rainforest.

As a proper club trip, there will be a four-wheel driving component along easy and medium-rated tracks, including some sandy sections. The route is suitable for proficient drivers and offers a great chance to explore off-road in a relaxed and scenic setting.

There will be time to enjoy pretty towns on the Great Ocean Road including Anglesea and Torquay, watch sunset and/or sunrise from one of the scenic lookouts and most importantly have a dinner together on Saturday.

Flexible participation: If you’re unable to join for the full weekend, there is an option to participate for one day only. Please contact the trip leader in advance if you plan to join either Saturday or Sunday.

Here are details of the weekend trip:

    Day 1 – Saturday

    • 9:30 am – 04:30 pm  Trek 14 The Otways – Medium from Lorne to Anglesea (ca 74 km)
    • 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm  check-in at accommodation
    • 6:15 pm – 7:45 pm  dinner in Torquay or Anglesea
    • 8:15 pm – 9:00 pm  sunset photography

    Day 2 - Sunday

    • 10:00 am – 03:30 pm  Trek 15 Inland from Anglesea – Medium from Anglesea to Winchelsea (ca 51 km)

Weather:  Late spring and early summer in the Otways are typically sunny and warm, but conditions can vary.  Please check the forecast before departure and come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear.  Bring water, sunscreen and a hat.

This is strictly a dry-weather trip. If rain is forecast, I reserve the right to cancel or postpone the trip with one week's notice.

No camper trailers, pets or firearms.

Accommodation:  Arrangement of accommodation for the night 6th/7th December will remain in participants’ discretion.  Anglesea and Torquay offer a variety of hotels, motels, B&Bs and campgrounds.  Weather in spring can be unpredictable, so flexible bookings are highly recommended (ideally allowing free cancellation before the 4th December).

Meals:  Coffee stops will be held in the bush, so please bring your own simple morning and afternoon tea.  Consider packing a thermos or a small gas stove for tea or coffee.

This is a social weekend trip, and it would be lovely to enjoy Saturday evening together.  A restaurant in either Torquay or Anglesea will be booked once participants have registered.  I’ll share the details once arrangements are confirmed.

For Sunday breakfast, feel free to make your own at your accommodation or grab something from one of the local cafés or bakeries nearby.

Maps and Reference Material:  Meridian Maps 'The Otways' 4WD Touring Map, 3rd Edition

Trip Standard:  Medium in dry conditions – a combination of easy and medium tracks.

    Duration:  2 days

    Convoy limit:  8 vehicles

Meeting arrangements: We will depart at 9:30 am on Saturday from the car park of the Lorne Visitor Information Centre (15 Mountjoy Parade, Lorne VIC 3232). If you would like to grab a coffee beforehand, please arrive a little earlier to allow time.
